the perpetual city does not exist in built form, however it draws an anology of itself and the journey of an individual from ‘a’ to ‘b’.
this can represent many things on many scales for each individual. whether that be ones own life or simply a short fleeting day.
the idea that the city is everlasting and that its occupants are on a contious journey to the centre derives from the idea of a labryinth. every labryinth has a centre and a journey to it through its periphery.
it is this journey which each of us undertake in everyday life that the city represents. as each individual lives through it they leave their own mark. this mark takes on a visual form and hence the city is constantly changing.
begining on the edge the individual begins to live through what seems to be a never ending always changing metropolis. as we continuly move towards our own ‘centre’ we never know how far away or how close it really is. what the centre represents and what happens after your reach it is open to interpretation. it may be achieveing a certain goal or aspiration, perhaps the end of that individuals life. what is certain is that the city will still exist and many more will continue to make their own journey through it.
this journey within the perpetual city is represented through a series of images which describes an individuals own path from the periphery to the centre of the city.
